DECEMBER 2005
December 16: The December issue of Plate Numbers is in
the mail. Be sure to check out the mail auction. There is also
a membership survey that should be returned to APNSS President Eric
Chaulsett.
December 15: In what must be a record, Scott has assigned new
catalog numbers to the new (39¢) non-denominated stamps that were issued
on Dec. 8. Details on the 2005 page.
December 14: Two new plate numbers reported for the
2003 (10¢) Atlas coil.
December 13: Mottled tagging variety reported plate S77777 of
2003 (10¢) Library Lion coil.
December 11: Additional plate numbers reported for new non-denominated issues. Details on the 2005
and 2006 pages.
December 10: Additional Sea Coast coil plate number reported.

December 3: Plate numbers reported for new non-denominated issues,
additional forthcoming rate change stamps announced. Details on the 2005

NOVEMBER 2005
November 28: New non-denominated issues planned for late 2005
and preliminary issues for 2006 announced.
November 23: Charles Snee reports in the Nov. 28 issue of Linn's
Stamp News that the Snowy Egret booklet panes have been printed in two
varieties. The initial 750 million stamp run has no microprinting
and used plate numbers P11111 and P22222. An additional plate
printing of 1.5 billion stamps was done, with "USPS" microprinted in black
at the egret's neck joint. The microprinted variety used plate
numbers P33333, P44444 and P55555. It is expected that Scott will
issue a new catalog number for the constant variety. Further details

November 23: New Scott numbers assigned for recent 2005 issues.
November 19: APNSS member Wallace Cleland discusses a reprinted 1950
article on identifying partial plate numbers on coils and booklets, in the
November 2005 United States Specialist, the monthly journal of the
United States Stamp Society. The article, commentary and
accompanying diagrams would be very useful for any collector of pre-1980
coil and booklet plate number singles.
November 19: Additional plate numbers reported on recent 2005 issues.
November 12: New misprint reported, resulting in a new plate variety
for the "all-sides" Sea Coast coil.
November 4: Our web site has been re-crawled to update the indexing.
The Search capability should now find recently added web pages and updated
details.
November 3: Both plate numbers P1111111 and P2222222 confirmed for 2005
American Advances in Aviation
issue.

July 25: New
plate number reported for 2003 Snowy Egret coil.
It is reported as a "lightning blue" variety due to the difference in
color of the blue in the egret portion of the stamp.
July 16: The

Numbers is in the mail.
July 4: Plate
numbers reported for 2005 Disney issue, upcoming
Advances in Aviation.
July 1: Visitor
Ron Blanks of Virginia pointed out several errors on the Sea Coast Coil
summary page, which have now been corrected.
JUNE 2005
June 24: A new
printer and plate number have been reported for the 2002 37¢ Flag
self-adhesive coil. Presumably a new Scott number will be assigned,
too.
June 24: New

Egret coil, Scott 3829A.
June 14: New
Scott numbers reported for recent 2005 issues.
June 7: The
latest issue of the APNSS newsletter Plate Numbers is in the mail.
It includes an 87-lot auction.
June 6: The
APNSS web site is featured in the "Glassine Surfer" column of the June
2005 issue of American Philatelist. We welcome any new
members who come to us through the APS.

Scott has reversed itself. Owing to minor differences in the 2005

MARCH 2005
March 25:
Examples of plate number singles from the 18¢
and 20¢ eras have been added, along with
PNS of the Flora and Fauna series.
March 24:
Scott numbers assigned for recent 2005 issues.
March 23:
Scott has assigned different Types to the three possible frame varieties
of the 2004 ATM Santa issue, but will not be
assigning different major or minor catalogue numbers. The only plate
number can be collected with Type 1 or Type 3, depending on whether you
prefer your self-adhesive plate numbers adjoining the top or bottom of the
stamp.
March 21:

APNSS plans to have a table at the big APS
StampShow to be held in Grand
Rapids, Michigan August 4-7, 2005. Plate Numbers Editor and Auction
Director Milt Keiles and APNSS Treasurer Jim Ragsdale will be there, along
with Michigan member Herb Bolhouse. Save the dates and join us at
this traditionally well-attended Midwestern stamp show.

Life Member Keith Zempel wrote to ask about the APNSS Membership Cards
that we used to have ten or more years back. We don't currently have
them, but if enough members are interested, we can look into producing
some more. Email the

January 14:
Scott has reversed itself, and has assigned a minor listing to the
prephosphored Ashton-Potter Sea Coast coil.
January 13: A
new plate number has been reported for the 2003
version of the Atlas coil.
January 6: We
have added a link to the web site of the USSS's
Marginal Markings Committee. Take a look.
January 5:
Linn's Stamp News (1/10/05, page 12) reports that plate 3333A was
used on an experimental printing of the 37¢ BEP coil stamp, Scott 3632.
Both the experimental printing and subsequent press run were made on non-phosphored
paper. The phosphorescent tagging was then applied over the printed
stamps. Plate 3333A exists on Scott 3632 (prephosphored paper, about
90% of the printing run) and on Scott 3632 var (non-phosphored paper,
tagged, about 10% of the printing run. Further details and examples
