1990-2006 Flora and Fauna issues

This ongoing semi-official series includes various definitives and make-up rate stamps from 1991 to 2007.

A brief note from the Webmaster regarding the Flora and Fauna series

The Postal Service does not recognize these stamps as an ongoing series, despite calling three of them part of the "Wildlife" series in their official announcements.

The Scott Catalog recognizes the early issues from 1991 to about 1995 (1¢, 2¢, 3¢, 19¢, 20¢ Blue Jay, 20¢ Pheasant, 29¢ Wood Duck, 29¢ Pine Cone, 30¢, 32¢ Peach, 32¢ Pear, 45¢ and $2 denominations) as the "Flora and Fauna" series. Most later issues are treated as independent stamps.

Since the APNSS web site is structured around illustrating stamp examples for a specific stamp denomination or rate period (5¢ Commemoratives, 29¢ Commemoratives...), it would be difficult to find a sample image of a specific post card rate stamp or make-up rate stamp unless you remembered the rate period in which it was issued. Therefore, I have taken the liberty of extending the informal "Flora and Fauna" series to include some later issues depicting wildlife, plants, flowers, fruits and berries, especially those that have been issued for post card rates and additional ounce rates. The very existence of a Flora and Fauna series is subject to debate among U.S. stamp collectors, and even if the series is accepted, the inclusion or exclusion of specific stamps is subject to the opinions and preferences of each individual stamp collector.

My intent is not to push a particular agenda regarding the Flora and Fauna series, nor whether individual stamps are properly in or not in that series. Rather, I have used this device merely to make it easier for you, the visitor to our web site, to quickly and conveniently locate examples of plate number singles through our menu system.
