This may appear as the same shade as the non-error stamp due to the way colors are captured digitally and rendered on individual computer monitors. There are actually two different shades of the blue error stamp. This example was photographically cropped from a block that received a certificate as the error in color.

It has long been held that the perforating process trimmed all top selvage from the 50¢ panes, so Top plate number positions should only be available on proofs. This precancel is the only reported example of a top plate number position on the finished stamp.
